Year 2 - Summer 2 - Week 6
Date: 12th Jul 2026 @ 2:18pm

And just like that, the penultimate week is over. Where has this term, and even the year, gone?
This week, we have been focusing on completing our Young Leaders Award. Looking at the four areas of Kindness, Perseverance, Action and Teamwork, we completed a series of tasks.
For Kindness, we looked at how to spread kindness and be a good friend. We discussed how a small act of kindness can have a bigger impact than we might think by exploring the ripple effect. We then considered how we could spread kindness in our community by writing letters to people who have helped us along the way.
For Perseverance, we looked at how we mustn't give up. Using Gracie from our story, we identified things that we needed to stick at in order to improve and set ourselves challenges for the summer. Afterwards, we made our very own 'Stick With It' sticks to remind us that, even when things are hard, we should keep going.
For Teamwork, we looked at who helps us in the community and took a stroll around the village, identifying different shops and places such as the library, swimming pool and police station. We realised that without these places, we would struggle. We were then fortunate enough to have a visit from two police officers, PC Jones and Detective Sloan. They each shared how they help the community in their different roles, and we enjoyed a fantastic Q&A session with some great props. To end their visit, the children had a race with both officers and found out the hard way that they were quicker than all of us! We certainly cannot outrun the law!
For Action, we decided how to help our school community and focused on planting some vegetables for our future selves in the vegetable patches in the Outdoor Learning Area. This means that not only we, but other classes too, will be able to enjoy some delicious vegetables in the autumn term.
We also finished our Art topic this week and created our very own moving monsters using hinges and levers. This proved harder than initially thought, and the children had to reflect on their work and identify that if they did not carefully place the split pins, their levers would not work properly. There were some fantastic designs!
In PE, we continued with our striking and fielding unit and again focused on developing our fielding skills. Through a variety of mini-games, we worked on striking the ball with power, watching where it was going, and improving our stance out in the field.
We obviously ended our week on a high with our fantastic Summer Fair. We loved the obstacle courses and bouncy castles, as well as all the treats on offer. The picnic lunch was perfect in this extremely hot weather and was, as always, a firm favourite.
Next week, our final week, promises to be an incredibly hot one for us all, with lots of exciting activities such as the leavers' performance and skateboarding. We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
Reminders
- PE kits are needed on Monday.
- A hat, sun cream and a water bottle are essential for the hot weather.
