Year 2 - Week 4 - Spring 2

Date: 20th Mar 2026 @ 4:20pm

Another super week! Well done, Year 2!

This week, we have continued with our English text, 'Major Glad and Major Dizzy'. We have worked hard to develop our writing making it exciting by using adjectives, adverbs and exciting punctuation. This week we have written a range of different text types, from instructions to descriptions. The children also made their own soliders, a mamoth task which involved a lot of paint due to the pegs being made of plastic not wood! Next week, we will finish off our topic and we plan and writie a diary entry. The children will explore how the characters might feel during a Blitz attack and will aim to use a range of exciting vocabulary.

In Maths, we continued our topic on measurement. We continued with mass, focusing on comparing objects weight and using a range of differnet scales. As well as this, the children looked at the difference between grams and kilograms. As the week concluded, we looked at using the 4 operations to solve questions, some of us found this tricky so we will continue this next week nbefore moving onto volume.

In DT we began making our Ferris Wheels. We looked at desigining our wheels, identfiyin the different parts such as the axle and frame and ensured we included all parts using a design criteria. After, the children started creating the wheel and axle.We selected paper plates for this, and used straws. We decided that if the hole for the axle to go through was too big, then we could place some tac around the ourtside to make it smaller. Next week, the children will make the frame of the ferris wheel using either a cereal box or milk bottle before desiging and adding their pods.

In PE we continued with out topics of Dance and Invasions games. The children moved onto the circus theme and looked at how we could show we were different characters and also doing different jobs in the circus. In invasion games, the children looked at attacking and defending using a  ball. After, of course, we finished with the classes favourite game, dodgeball!

In Outdoor learning, the children excelled themselves! This week they worked in teams to not only light a fire but to make hot chocolate using a Kelly Kettle. For this, they had to use a knife and a mallet to chop wood, igniting the fire and boiling the water whilst also taking the kettle off carefully each time. Next week, the children will chop wood to make a big fire and then will come together to have marshmellows.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
