Year 2 - Summer 2 - Week 5
Date: 3rd Jul 2026 @ 3:53pm
We have had another wonderful week in Year 2, packed with exciting learning and some very special experiences!
In English, we finished writing our persuasive letters to the King who stole the dark. The children worked incredibly hard to explain why darkness is important and why it should be returned. They used reasons and examples from the story to justify their opinions and practised using persuasive language to convince the King to change his mind. It was fantastic to see how confidently they expressed their ideas and structured their arguments.
In Maths, we began our new topic on time. The children learned how to read and write the time to o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We explored this practically using clocks before applying our knowledge to a range of questions and activities. We also continued to develop our arithmetic skills through our weekly Arithmetic Friday, where the children practised key calculation methods and number facts.
In PE, we continued our athletics unit and focused on throwing over a greater distance. The children thought carefully about the techniques they were using, discussing the differences between overarm and underarm throws and how these affected the distance travelled. We also explored striking and fielding, working on how to throw the ball into the air before striking it effectively. The children showed excellent determination and teamwork throughout the lessons.
In History, we continued our learning about seaside holidays in the past. The children explored the different activities families would have enjoyed at the beach and designed posters to advertise a Victorian seaside trip. To finish, they worked in groups to act out a typical family day out at the seaside, helping to bring their learning to life.
In RE, we continued learning about Pentecost. The children explored how Pentecost is celebrated within the Christian faith and how it is reflected in the Church's calendar. They shared thoughtful ideas about why this event is important to Christians today.
In Science, we reflected on our plant-growing experiment. The children carefully observed the changes that had taken place and discussed how their plants had developed since being planted. They thought like scientists by comparing their observations with their original predictions. Next week, we will be writing up our results and drawing conclusions from our investigation.
On Friday, we were given a very special treat when an ex-pupil visited us with his impressive Formula 4 racing car. The children were fascinated to learn about his journey into motorsport and discover more about the car and how it works. Some children were even lucky enough to have their photograph taken with the car after school!
We also said a fond goodbye to Miss O'Hanlin on Thursday. We have been very lucky to have her working with us over the past few weeks, and we would like to thank her for all of her hard work and support. We wish her every success and happiness for the future.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend and look forward to another exciting week of learning ahead!
