Year 3 - Autumn 1 - Week 8
Date: 23rd Oct 2026 @ 7:41am
Wow, we have reached the end of our first half term in Year 3! It has been wonderful to see the children’s enthusiasm, creativity and confidence grow.
Last Friday’s visit to Laurel’s Wood was a real highlight. The children built incredible dens and even enjoyed eating their lunch inside them! Everyone got stuck in, and our instructor, Andy, was extremely impressed by their effort and positive attitudes. Well done, Year 3!
In English this week, we began exploring our new quality text, It Fell From the Sky. We learnt about the animals in the story and used our drama skills to bring the characters to life.
In maths, we have continued practising column addition and subtraction, taking our learning a step further by exchanging between columns. We will build on this next half term before moving on to our 3, 4 and 8 times tables. There is also a Times Tables Rock Stars battle against Year 4 over half term—only the first 30 minutes of play each day will count towards the score.
In PE, the children enjoyed creating their own games using different equipment and playing Monster Dodgeball. We also continued singing with the Liverpool Cathedral singers. In Art, we used Sketchpad.io to create beautiful digital flower pictures, with wonderful results.
We rounded off a busy half term with a cosy pyjama day and enjoyed watching a pantomime together as a school—a lovely way to celebrate!
Attached are English and maths summaries showing what we have covered this half term, along with some photographs from the week. I have also taken a class photograph for our classroom, which will feature on the children’s Laurel’s Wood certificates.
A few reminders for next half term:
- PE days will stay the same.
- There will be no spellings for the first week back.
Thank you for your support throughout our first half term together.
Have a lovely, restful break!
