Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely Easter break.

In RE, we started our new topic, 'Which rules should we follow?'. The children explored why rules are important and considered the effects rules can have on individuals and communities. We linked this to religious contexts by encouraging the children to ask thoughtful questions about religious rules and why followers choose to live by them. This led to some mature and respectful discussions, showing excellent listening and reasoning skills.

In Maths, we have continued developing our understanding of fractions. This half term, the focus has been on equivalent fractions, where children explored how different fractions can represent the same amount. They used number lines to place and compare fractions accurately and worked with bar models to visually represent equivalence.

In English, we launched our new text, 'Journey', which has captured the children’s imagination. We began by studying the illustrations closely and making thoughtful predictions about the story. The children then wrote a diary entry from the perspective of one of the characters, using emotion and description to bring their writing to life. Alongside this, we introduced the present perfect tense, discussing how it is formed and when it is used.

In Science, we began our new topic on rocks. The children had the opportunity to carefully observe and sort different types of rocks based on their appearance and physical properties, such as colour, texture and hardness.

In History, we introduced our exciting new topic on the Ancient Egyptians. The children learned about everyday life in Ancient Egypt, exploring what homes, food and society were like. They also looked at the different jobs people had and discussed how roles varied depending on status and wealth.

In PE this week, we have been practising our football skills. We worked on dribbling the ball with control and passing accurately to our teammates. The children showed great focus and teamwork as they practised these skills and worked hard to improve their confidence with the ball.

During Outdoor Learning, we made the most of the spring sunshine and the beautiful blossom around us. The children took time to observe their surroundings and create their own detailed drawings, focusing on shape, pattern and colour.
