Welcome back, Year 3! We hope you all had a lovely and restful half term break. It has been wonderful to see everyone back in class, ready for a new half term full of exciting learning and new experiences.

In RE, we have been learning about how harvest is celebrated around the world. The children explored different traditions in countries such as the UK and beyond, discussing how people show gratitude for the food they have. We talked about the importance of giving thanks and how communities come together during harvest festivals. The children shared thoughtful ideas and made links between different celebrations, showing a growing understanding of cultural diversity.

In maths, we began our new topic on time. The children have been learning how to tell the time using o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We have focused on reading analogue clocks and understanding the position of the minute and hour hands. The class has enjoyed practical activities where they have used clocks to show different times and have started to apply this knowledge to real-life situations.

In English, we started our new class text, Zeraffa Giraffa. The children were very excited to be introduced to the story and took part in discussions to predict what might happen next. They showed great imagination and used clues from the front cover and opening pages to support their ideas. We have also been exploring new and challenging vocabulary, discussing word meanings and how they help us to better understand the story.

In D&T, we looked at the features of a castle in preparation for designing our own. We explored different types of castles and discussed their structures and purposes, which has already inspired some excellent ideas.

On Wednesday, we went swimming for our third lesson. The children showed great enthusiasm and are continuing to build their confidence in the water.

In Geography, we started our new topic investigating India. We located India on a world map and explored the different climate zones across the country, learning how weather can vary in different regions.

In PE, we have been practising for sports day. The children have been working on a range of activities, focusing on teamwork, perseverance and trying their best.

Reminders:

Swimming continues to be on a Wednesday
