What a busy week we have had in Year 3.

In RE, we have been learning all about harvest festivals around the world. We explored how different countries celebrate harvest and give thanks for the food we have. It was fascinating to see the similarities and differences between celebrations and to understand why harvest is such an important time for many communities.

In English, we have been working hard on our speaking and writing skills. We took part in a fun hot-seating activity, where we were able to ask the main character questions to understand their thoughts and feelings more deeply. We also practised using subordinating conjunctions, the present perfect tense and expanded noun phrases. We used all of these skills in a diary entry written from Atir’s perspective, describing the final part of his journey to Paris with Zeraffa Giraffa.

In Maths, we have been learning about time, focusing on days, weeks and months. We even learned a fun song to help us remember how many days are in each month.

As part of a team-building activity, we completed a STEM challenge. The children were given a selection of materials and had to build a structure that could hold a glue stick and was at least 20 cm off the table. There was lots of teamwork, creativity and problem-solving on display.

We had an amazing time at Sports Day. Everyone showed great enthusiasm and teamwork while taking part in a range of events, including running races, sack races, speed bounce, egg and spoon races and the three-legged race. It was a day full of fun and laughter.

In Geography, we compared two rivers, the Ganges and the Narmada. We looked at water quality, how the rivers are used and what activities can take place on them. We also thought about how these rivers can be looked after and protected in the future.

In Design and Technology this week, we explored nets and how they can be folded to create 3D shapes. We carefully cut and assembled different nets, learning how 2D shapes transform into 3D objects.
