Year 4 - Autumn 1 - Week 3

Year 4 have enjoyed a busy and exciting week filled with lots of learning and new experiences!

In English, we have been exploring what makes a great narrative. Using an example text, we discussed the key ingredients needed to create an engaging story. We learnt about fronted adverbials and how prepositions can be used within expanded noun phrases to add extra detail. We also picked out powerful words and phrases that helped to create a sense of magic within the text. To finish the week, we wrote our own setting descriptions of magical places and began planning our own exciting stories.

In Maths, we have continued our work on place value with numbers up to 10,000. We used a range of practical manipulatives to help us deepen our understanding and enjoyed taking part in games and puzzles that challenged our thinking while making learning fun. We have also been practising our times tables every day to improve our speed and accuracy. The children have shown great determination as they work towards becoming more confident with their multiplication facts.

Music brought a very exciting first this week as we had our very first clarinet lesson with Mrs McArdle. She was incredibly impressed by the children’s enthusiasm and willingness to have a go. We are looking forward to seeing how their musical skills develop over the year.

On Tuesday, we were lucky enough to take part in a skipping workshop with Dan the Skipping Man. Everyone had great fun learning new skipping skills and tricks before watching an amazing performance. The children showed fantastic perseverance and enthusiasm throughout the session.
