Year 4 - Autumn 1 - Week 4

What a busy and brilliant week it has been in Year 4! Take a look at some of our highlights.

In Collective Worship, we reflected on how we can grow as individuals, thinking about the special gifts and talents God has given us and the areas we hope to continue developing. We considered the values we must uphold to help us grow with kindness, courage and purpose. In RE, we explored the values God looks for in our hearts and discussed how these qualities help us to serve others, offer hope, nurture those around us and celebrate our unique selves.

In Maths, we continued our work on place value. This week’s challenges included partitioning the same thousands number in different ways, estimating where numbers up to 10,000 would sit on a number line, and adding or subtracting 10 and 100 from larger four‑digit numbers. The children showed great resilience and accuracy throughout.

When writing this week, we were inspired by an extract from The Nowhere Emporium. Using this as our stimulus, we designed our own mysterious shops that suddenly appeared in our local village. We focused on descriptive language to help the reader imagine each unusual shop and to build a sense of intrigue and wonder. Our Guided Reading sessions have taken us on a journey around the world as we retrieved information about different countries and compared key facts.

In Geography, we explored the climate of rainforests and created climate graphs to show average temperature and rainfall. The children worked carefully to present their data clearly and accurately.

Swimming continues to be a real highlight of our week. It has been wonderful to see growing confidence in the water, with children trying out different strokes and showing real perseverance.
