Year 4 - Autumn 1 - Week 6
Date: 5th Oct 2026 @ 7:06pm
What a wonderful week we’ve had in Year 4!
In Collective Worship, we explored the theme of equality and reflected on how every person, regardless of race, gender, ability or background, is loved by God and valued equally. We linked this to Black History Month, focusing on Martin Luther King and the dream he had for a fairer, kinder world. We then thought about our own dreams for the world we live in and how diversity reflects God’s creativity and unity.
In English, we continued writing our narratives inspired by Leon and the Place Between. We focused on using paragraphs to organise settings, characters and key events and included fronted adverbials and expanded noun phrases to bring our stories to life.
In Maths, we used Learning by Questions to revisit our understanding of place value before moving on to refine our use of the column method to add and subtract numbers.
In Geography, we explored how modern society differs from tribal life, comparing similarities and differences in how communities live, work and support one another. In swimming, we continued practising a variety of strokes and building confidence in the water.
During our reading sessions, we have been exploring experiments and how authors use diagrams, numbered steps and clear headings to help the reader follow instructions accurately. The children enjoyed identifying the features and discussing why they are important.
Thank you for another brilliant week, Year 4. We hope you have a lovely weekend.
