Year 4 have enjoyed another busy and thoughtful week together.

Collective Worship centred on Hate Crime Awareness Week where we reflected on the importance of kindness, courage and standing up for others. We also took part in Wear Red Day to show our support for anti racism. The children learned that wearing red is a way of showing unity and reminding ourselves that everyone deserves respect, fairness and love.

Our RE learning explored how Christians use modern images to describe what God is like. We discussed objects such as sat navs, lighthouses, umbrellas and anchors and thought about how each one could represent guidance, protection or strength. The children then wrote their own modern Psalms using imagery to express how God supports people during difficult times.

Maths lessons focused on applying column addition and subtraction to word problems. The children practised setting out their calculations clearly and choosing the most efficient method to solve each question.

English gave us the chance to revisit capital letters and inverted commas and to practise punctuating speech accurately. We then created posters to help us choose the correct homophones in our writing which the children really enjoyed designing.

Guided Reading introduced us to poetry as part of Ready Steady Read Together for Autumn 1 Week 5. We explored how poets use rhythm, imagery and structure to create meaning and discussed how different poems make us think and feel.

Geography learning centred on the threats facing the world’s rainforests. The children showed great curiosity when thinking about how human actions affect these habitats and what we can do to help protect them.

Science allowed us to investigate vertebrates and invertebrates. We sorted animals into groups and identified the key features that help us classify them which linked well with our wider learning about living things. We also created our own leaf men and fairies during outdoor learning, using leaves as the central feature of each design to bring our characters to life.

Thank you for another brilliant week Year 4. We hope you have a lovely weekend.
