Year 4 - Autumn 1 - Week 8
Date: 21st Oct 2026 @ 7:05pm
What a fantastic first term we have had in Year 4!
RE lessons gave us the chance to write our own psalms. We chose an image that we felt represented God such as a stone, a shield or a lighthouse and explained our thinking. A lighthouse felt fitting because it lights the way for us to follow and a shield felt right because it protects us. Collective worship was full of new learning as Reverend Anne explained that the Bible contains sixty six different stories all inside one book. We also discovered the many languages the Bible has been translated into.
English turned us into reporters as we wrote persuasive articles about a new fairground opening. We used rhetorical questions and powerful vocabulary to encourage visitors to come along. Everyone chose their favourite attraction and worked hard to make it sound exciting.
Maths focused on addition and subtraction problems. We used highlighters to pick out key facts and looked closely at words that help us decide whether a question needs adding or subtracting. The iceberg analogy helped us understand negative numbers and we practised estimating amounts.
Friday was a real highlight as we arrived in school wearing our pyjamas to support Alder Hey. The day became even better when we watched a pantomime in our comfy clothes.
Spanish lessons taught us how to greet each other and answer questions such as how old we are and where we live. We counted to twenty and learnt the Spanish words for the days of the week and the months of the year. Art lessons explored tone and texture to help our drawings look three dimensional. Science helped us understand vertebrates and invertebrates and we sorted them onto a classification chart to show our knowledge of living things with and without a backbone.
