Year 4 - Summer 1 - Week 1
Date: 13th Apr 2026 @ 8:44pm
What a fantastic first week back we have had!
It was lovely to see all the children returning and enjoying time with their friends, and they were excited to hear about the new things we will be learning this term.
This term in RE, our focus is on looking at different churches and considering whether all churches are the same. Through research, we found that church buildings can look different from the outside, although some features are similar depending on denomination. We also used religious vocabulary to name features of a church that we already knew from visiting St Peter’s and Holy Trinity Church.
In Maths, we identified key events on a calendar and reminded ourselves how many days are in a week and how many months are in a year. We also looked at how a leap year changes the calendar. We organised activities into measurements of time, including seconds, minutes and hours, and read and wrote the time to the nearest five minutes. Next week, we will focus on recognising the difference between analogue and digital time and converting between the two.
Our new focus book, Where the Forest Meets the Sea by Jeannie Baker, links to our Geography and Art topics this term. We explored the sounds of a rainforest and used descriptive language to describe what our senses could see and hear. We also took sentences from the book and changed the pronouns to create variety, before building our own glossary of vocabulary connected to the theme of the story.
As part of our outdoor learning session, we designed and created nature masks using natural materials. We explores camouflage and how living things blend into their environment.
We looked at Henri Rousseau’s painting Tiger in a Tropical Storm in Art and discussed the techniques used. With the aim of making the animals in our own forest scenes stand out, we selected colours carefully and began adding parrots to our artwork. In PE, we were introduced to Tri-Golf and created a mini golf course on the school field to develop our aiming skills towards a target flag.
It has been lovely to have you back, Year 4. Have a restful weekend.
