Year 4 - Summer 1 - Week 3
Date: 28th Apr 2026 @ 3:07pm
We have had a great week here in Year 4!
Our RE learning focused on the features of a mosque, where we recalled the religious vocabulary used to describe the symbols and objects found inside. The children also explored the purpose of a prayer mat and enjoyed designing their own.
English lessons brought us back to the structure of a non‑chronological report. We identified the heading and key facts about the amazing Amazon rainforest, created a three second summary for each section and added our own sub‑headings to the numbered paragraphs. With many words ending in the ous spelling, we revisited the rule and changed words such as danger and poison into dangerous and poisonous.
Maths took us further into the 24 hour clock as we practised converting between am and pm time. We then moved on to writing money using a decimal and later converted pounds to pence after visiting the pop up classroom shop.
Geography learning helped us understand that a rainforest has four layers. We named each layer, identified the living things found within them and then headed outside to create artwork using natural resources to represent the four layers.
Science continued our work on states of matter. The children explored how water changes between a solid, liquid and gas and used the scientific terms evaporation, freezing and melting. Outdoor learning linked closely to this as we carried out a bubble investigation on the playground. The children observed how bubbles form, identified the liquid film and the gas inside, experimented with different sizes and noticed what caused bubbles to pop. This supported their understanding of how gases move and how liquids can stretch to hold a shape for a short time.
Have a lovely bank holiday weekend. Look forwarded to seeing you all on Tuesday.
