Year 4 - Summer 1 - Week 4
Date: 5th May 2026 @ 8:56pm
It might have been a short week, but we still squeezed in so much learning.
Excitement filled the classroom as our preparations and research projects for Chester Zoo got underway. After analysing virtual information boards from around the zoo, we created our own information boards bursting with factual information about the rainforest and the wildlife that might be found within it. We selected our own catchy headings, pictures, three-second summaries and subheadings to support the factual information we recorded for the reader. We recognised the importance of making information boards engaging to read and discussed how questions, alliteration and clear headings can help achieve this.
In Guided Reading, we explored an information text about pygmy hippos. We focused on retrieving key facts, understanding word meanings, identifying effective vocabulary choices and inferring information that was not directly stated in the text.
In Maths, we focused on ordering amounts of money, using rounding to estimate totals, and adding and subtracting money. Next week, we will revisit the language used to describe position and direction and explore how coordinates help us to plot and discover locations.
In Science, we learnt about the water cycle and the processes of evaporation, accumulation, condensation and precipitation. We enjoyed learning a catchy song to help us remember the four main parts of the cycle.
Continuing our focus on rainforests, we identified the average rainfall and temperature and plotted our findings for each month using line and bar graphs.
In Spanish, we continued learning the language used to explain that we are unwell and explored how a conversation might take place between ourselves and a doctor during a visit to the doctor’s surgery.
To celebrate David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, we stepped outdoors to create a nature-inspired celebration. Mud cakes, leaf bunting and artwork made from natural resources were all part of the birthday treats we had to offer.
Happy weekend, Year 4. See you Monday!
