Another fantastic week here in Year 4!

We began our RE learning this week by unpicking the Lord’s Prayer to understand the meaning behind the words and the terminology used. The children recognised that it is a Christian prayer taught by Jesus to his disciples and that it begins by making clear who Christians are praying to, as they believe God is the Father of everyone.

Much of the week has been spent revisiting key learning and completing assessments to showcase everything the children know. The positivity and enthusiasm in the room when they are given the chance to demonstrate their thinking is wonderful to see.

English lessons took us into the world of imperative verbs and how they are used to give instructions. The children used their imaginations brilliantly as they explored how clouds might be made if they were the inventors. Bubble wands and candy floss machines were among the most popular ideas. We also sketched designs of caves, illustrating their features and labelling them using key vocabulary from the text.

In Maths, we focused on comparing and ordering angles by size, identifying angles in shapes and patterns, and using the terms greater than and less than a right angle with growing confidence.

Another highlight of the week was a visit from the Formby High School Sports Leaders, who led an energetic and enjoyable afternoon of rounders. The children practised throwing, catching, batting and learning the rules and tactics, all while having great fun.

Our History lesson encouraged the children to think about the different perceptions people have of the Vikings and why these views exist. They explored contrasting accounts written by Saxons and Vikings and discovered that the Monks, who had the wealth and resources to record events, often portrayed the Vikings negatively because of their own experiences.

For our art lesson, we explored famous buildings and studied the Taj Mahal in India, noticing its symmetrical design; using half of the building as a template, we carefully reconstructed the other side to create our own balanced patterns.

With Sports Day fast approaching, excitement is building and we are looking forward to welcoming families to cheer the children on next week.

Have a lovely weekend, Year 4.
