We have had a great week in Year 4!

We have continued to be inspired by the story Blue John in our writing lessons and have enjoyed exploring the four chapters we have read so far. We thought carefully about what we might see and hear if we were the child dancing in the cavern with Blue John and used similes to describe what our senses would experience. Later in the week, we created an explanation text to describe how Blue John was formed, using geographical vocabulary linked to the features of a cave.

In Maths, we learned about right angles, identified different types of triangles and explored the properties of polygons. We practised spotting these shapes in different contexts and discussed how the number of sides and angles helps us classify them.

Thinking like historians, we examined how the Vikings tried to take over the country and explored how close they came. We learned that the Vikings returned to Britain for almost three hundred years, first as raiders and then as settlers. We identified a time when the Vikings were successful and a time when they were not. Using terms such as raiders and settlement, we discussed the importance of the Danelaw and considered key turning points in the Vikings fortunes.

For outdoor learning, we focused on photography. We practised taking photographs of natural environments before adding animals into the images to create imaginative scenes.

We also had a fantastic Sports Day filled with laughter and smiles. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it a memorable day. The children loved taking part in the races and their joy was clear to see.

Have a restful weekend and enjoy the sunshine.
