Year 5 - Autumn 1 - Week 5
Date: 1st Oct 2026 @ 4:28pm

What a fantastic week we have had in Year 5!
In English, we have been writing our own Trespass narratives inspired by the wordless book The Midnight Fair. The children have worked incredibly hard to create exciting stories, carefully choosing powerful vocabulary to match the illustrations. They have done an excellent job of setting the scene and building lots of suspense to keep their readers engaged and wanting to find out what happens next.
In Maths, we have been learning how to round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100. We learned a helpful rhyme to remind us what to do when we are rounding, and the children have been applying this confidently to a range of different numbers.
In RE, we explored the Bible story of Zacchaeus the Tax Collector. We discussed the Christian value of forgiveness and thought about how we can show forgiveness in our own lives. We also considered why Bible stories are important to Christians and how the teachings within them can influence the choices believers make every day.
In PE, we started our new topic of Fitness. We focused on arm strength and took part in a fun game of crab football. This challenged us to use muscles that we do not normally use and helped us think about the importance of strength and endurance when exercising.
On Tuesday, we were lucky enough to take part in a Beatles Tour around Liverpool. We visited different places connected to The Beatles, including areas where they lived and places they regularly visited. We finished our trip at the famous Cavern Club. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Liverpool's rich musical history.
In Art, we became installation artists and worked together to create our own pieces of installation art. Using PE equipment, we designed and built figures showing people taking part in different activities. The children showed great creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills throughout the lesson.
The spellings are attached to this blog. They will be tested 9/10/26
Reminders:
PE days continue to be Tuesday and Thursday
