Year 5- Autumn 2- Week 5
Date: 4th Dec 2025 @ 4:05pm
This week has been full of creativity, learning, and exciting experiences!
In English, we have planned and begun writing our Golden Pen stories. The children have loved using their imagination to develop interesting characters and vivid settings. We can’t wait to see the finished pieces—they’re shaping up to be fantastic!
In Maths, our focus has been on fractions. We’ve learned how to calculate equivalent fractions and how to convert improper fractions into mixed numbers. The children have worked hard and shown great perseverance with these new skills.
In RE, we explored a range of Nativity artwork from around the world. It was fascinating to discuss the similarities and differences in how this special story is represented across cultures.
For our investigations in Science, we looked at ways to separate mixtures using filtering, sieving, and magnets. The children enjoyed the hands-on activities and were able to explain how each method works.
Our Computing unit, My Online Self, encouraged thoughtful discussions about online identity and safety. We explored topics such as self-image, online relationships, managing information, reputation, and privacy. The children showed great maturity in their responses.
In Spanish, we wrote wonderful descriptions of our local cities. The children worked hard to choose appropriate adjectives and ensure their verbs agreed correctly.
On Wednesday afternoon, Year 5 had a fabulous time at the Empire Theatre watching Matilda the Musical. It was an incredible show, and we were so proud of how beautifully the children behaved throughout the trip.
Finally, we had lots of fun with this year's Santa Dash, finding the clues and working out which elf was the odd one out. A big thank you to Miss McVey for organising this.
