Year 5- Summer 1- Week 5
Date: 12th May 2026 @ 10:22pm
This week in English, we put our typing skills into practice by creating and writing up our persuasive texts about landfills. We enjoyed thinking carefully about presentation, adding subtitles and images to make our work eye‑catching. We worked hard to include emotive language, rhetorical questions, and facts and evidence to back up our points and convince our readers.
In Maths, we learnt how to use protractors accurately to measure and draw different angles. We also calculated angles around a point, on a straight line, and within different shapes. The children really enjoyed putting their new skills to the test through a variety of challenges.
During RE, we explored the story of Esther and learned about how Jewish people celebrate the festival of Purim. We thought carefully about the important lessons we can learn from Esther, such as bravery and standing up for others.
In Art, we took inspiration from the artist Friedenreich Hundertwasser. We enjoyed looking at his vibrant buildings and imaginative designs before experimenting with our own sketches and colourful designs in his distinctive style.
Reminders:
- PE days are Thursday and Friday.
- Outdoor learning is each Thursday. As the weather is getting warmer, please send children in to school with hats and suncream, when necessary. Children are also welcome to bring a change of clothes for getting dirty.
