Year 5- Summer 1- Week 6
Date: 21st May 2026 @ 4:57pm

We have had a really enjoyable final week of half term, taking time to round off our learning and reflect on everything we have achieved.
In English, we used all of our knowledge of persuasive writing to create a leaflet for a magical school. Our aim was to persuade parents to send their children there, and the results were fantastic! The children came up with incredibly creative ideas, from enchanted classrooms to exciting extracurricular activities, and demonstrated a strong understanding of persuasive techniques. It was wonderful to see how confidently they applied everything they have learnt.
In Maths, we continued our work on angles. We focused on calculating missing angles on a straight line, around a point and within 2D shapes. The children showed great progress and resilience when tackling some tricky problems. We also explored 3D shapes, carefully describing their faces, edges and vertices. Everyone worked hard to use the correct mathematical vocabulary.
In RE, we used our 4C thinking skills to reflect on our unit about significant women from the Old Testament. We discussed what we have learnt from these inspiring stories and thought carefully about the messages they teach us. The children shared thoughtful and respectful ideas during our discussions.
In Science and RSE, we learnt about the changes that happen to humans as they grow into teenagers. The children approached this topic with great maturity, asking sensible questions and showing a respectful attitude throughout.
Our Outdoor Learning session was a highlight of the week! We were delighted to harvest another batch of our radishes, which have grown brilliantly. We were also very lucky to receive a donation of bean and tomato plants, which we carefully planted in our raised beds. We are all looking forward to watching them grow and flourish over the coming weeks.
To finish the week, we had a fun-filled day in Computing, exploring Augmented Reality (AR). The children learnt what AR means, tried out a variety of exciting apps and then created their own review blogs. It was a fantastic way to combine creativity with technology, and the class really enjoyed the experience.
What a brilliant way to end the half term!
Have a wonderful half term break, from the Year 5 Team.
