Year 5- Summer 2- Week 1
Date: 4th Jun 2026 @ 11:57am
Year 5 have had a very busy and successful week, with lots of opportunities to revisit and deepen their learning across the curriculum. In English, we have had a real focus on grammar, with revision including relative clauses, different types of pronouns and the use of apostrophes. The children also completed their Summer spelling and grammar assessments, and it was wonderful to see the confidence they showed as they recalled and applied everything they have learnt this year.
In Maths, we began by exploring co-ordinates before moving on to translation and symmetry. This unit provided a great opportunity for the children to develop their reasoning skills, as they tackled a range of challenges and problem-solving activities. The children showed excellent perseverance and a growing confidence in explaining their thinking.
In RE, we began our new topic on Life, Death and Christian hope. The children approached this sensitive and important subject with great maturity and respect, contributing thoughtfully to discussions and showing care when listening to one another’s ideas.
In Science, we started our new topic of Forces by learning about the life and work of Sir Isaac Newton. We then planned our own investigation to explore how mass affects gravity, carefully considering how to make it a fair test. The children demonstrated strong scientific thinking and enthusiasm for enquiry.
We also really enjoyed our introduction to the Victorians in History. We learnt about how they were great inventors and how life changed during the reign of Queen Victoria. The children were fascinated by the differences between Victorian times and today, and are looking forward to exploring this topic further.
We were super excited to see the the growth of our vegetables in Outdoor Learning this week. We observed the beginnings of courgettes, tomatoes and peas and discussed pollination and seed dispersal. Some children helped with a sanding job and we also enjoyed some mindfulness with a barefoot walk and yoga.
