Year 5- Summer 2- Week 2

Date: 8th Jun 2026 @ 9:53pm

It has been another fantastic week of learning in Year 5!

In English, our focus has been on reading, revisiting and revising all of the skills we have developed this year. The children approached this with great maturity and confidence, especially during our Summer term assessments. It has been wonderful to see the progress they have made and the pride they have taken in demonstrating their understanding.

In Maths, we have been revisiting rounding, working with numbers up to 1 million as well as decimals. The children also tackled a range of problem-solving questions using all four operations. We focused on taking time to picture each problem first, helping us to decide which strategies would be most effective.

In Science, we explored the work of Galileo Galilei and learned about air resistance. The children worked brilliantly in groups to plan and carry out their own investigations into parachutes. They tested either different materials or sizes, making sure to keep their tests fair. It was fantastic to see such teamwork, curiosity and careful thinking in action.

In RE, we considered what the Bible tells us about Heaven and reflected on our own ideas. The children shared their thoughts respectfully and thoughtfully, making this a really special and meaningful lesson.

In Spanish, we learned vocabulary for items we might take to the beach. We enjoyed playing a memory game before practising writing sentences about what we would pack in our beach bags.

Despite the rainy weather, Outdoor Learning continued! Some children embraced a very soggy welly walk up to the outdoor classroom to check on the progress of our plants (with some puddle jumping along the way!). Meanwhile, another group worked brilliantly as a team to build a new tripod and hanging grill for our fire pit. We are very excited to start cooking on it soon.
