This week in Year 5 has been full of exciting learning, creativity and teamwork!

In English, we were introduced to our new class text, The Hunter by Paul Geraghty. To immerse ourselves in the setting, we began by listening to African music, which helped us generate thoughtful predictions about what the story might be about. We also learnt about adverbs of probability and possibility, using them to write our own sentences. The children enjoyed exploring what it means to be a hunter, taking part in role play to imagine conversations between characters. We then recorded these ideas using direct speech, carefully including action in between.

In Maths, the children completed their final summer assessments. They have all worked incredibly hard this year and truly did themselves proud. We are so pleased with their effort and resilience!

Our RE lesson was particularly creative this week. We explored different pieces of artwork that depict Heaven and discussed what we noticed. The children then created their own beautiful interpretations using watercolours outdoors in the sunshine, producing some truly thoughtful and imaginative pieces.

In Science, we investigated water resistance, exploring how different shapes move through water. The children considered how surface area can affect movement and enjoyed testing their ideas through practical investigations.

On Tuesday, we had a fantastic Sports Day. It was wonderful to see everyone cheering each other on, showing great sportsmanship and enthusiasm in all the races. A huge thank you to all the supporters who came along, and to Team TSP for the much-appreciated ice pops!

We also enjoyed a special moment this week as we harvested our potatoes, which we have been carefully tending since March. The children were so excited to see how many had grown, and we are all looking forward to cooking and tasting them next week.
