In English, we have been bringing together all of the skills we have developed throughout the year. Using The Hunter as our inspiration, we wrote our own versions of the story, creating original characters and exciting new adventures. The children worked hard to describe settings and emotions in detail, use direct speech accurately and engage their readers. It was a lovely demonstration of everything they have learnt and achieved in Year 5.

In Maths, we explored the concept of volume. We began by building shapes using cubes to help us understand how volume is measured before moving on to calculating the volume of different 3D shapes from diagrams and pictures. The children showed great perseverance as they tackled increasingly challenging problems.

Our Science lessons focused on pulleys and investigating how they can reduce the amount of force needed to lift an object. The children made their own pulley systems and tested them using Newton meters, comparing the force required with and without a pulley. It was a brilliant hands-on investigation and generated lots of thoughtful discussions.

In PE, we enjoyed a game of rounders, developing our batting, bowling and teamwork skills while making the most of the sunshine.

On Monday, we had the privilege of attending the All Saints Trust Service at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral. It was wonderful to join together with pupils and staff from other schools to celebrate the theme of Unity. We were especially proud of Will S, who delivered a reading with great confidence in front of the congregation.

Thursday brought a well-earned reward as we celebrated filling our class pom-pom jar. The children enjoyed a relaxing movie afternoon complete with popcorn. A perfect way to recognise their excellent behaviour and teamwork throughout the year.

We also enjoyed the fruits (and vegetables!) of our labour in the garden this week, harvesting and cooking our green beans, which were delicious. We were amazed by the size of some of our courgettes, which had grown impressively over the term!

Finally, Friday was full of excitement as we enjoyed the Summer Fair. The children had a wonderful time visiting stalls, taking part in games, enjoying drinks and sweets, and bouncing on the inflatables out on the field.

A huge thank you to Team TSP for organising such a fantastic event and helping to make it so special for all of our children.
