Year 6 - Autumn 1 - Week 1

Welcome to the Year 6 blog for the 2026–2027 academic year!

It has been fantastic to welcome the children back and to see their enthusiasm for the new school year. There has been plenty of laughter already and a real sense of Year 6 team spirit taking shape - all in just three days!

We have already made a fantastic start to our learning by using ‘The Wild Robot’ as our stimulus. The children explored some of the important values and themes within the story, including service, resilience, creativity, nurture, joy, friendship, belonging and more! We also looked closely at Roz and how her character develops throughout the story. The children compared Roz at the beginning, middle and end of the film, considering how her experiences and relationships gradually change her. This led to some thoughtful discussions about whether our experiences, choices and relationships help shape who we become as well as some impressive artwork. It was a brilliant way to begin our Year 6 journey together, with plenty of links to the values we want to demonstrate as a class throughout the year.

Another highlight of the first few days has been finding out the names of our new Reception buddies! There was lots of excitement as the children discovered who they would be helping to nurture and support throughout their final school year. We then worked hard to draft and edit letters to introduce ourselves to our buddies. The children have thought carefully about what their new buddies might like to know about them, as well as how they can make their letters friendly, welcoming and reassuring. We can’t wait to meet them properly next week and to begin what will be a really special bond between our youngest and oldest school year groups.

A brilliant first few days and we’re already looking forward to the year ahead and to sharing the children’s learning, achievements and memorable Year 6 moments with you along the way.

Reminders

-Year 6 PE days are Thursday and Friday.

-Year 6 Music lessons (Ukulele) will be on Wednesday.

-The Formby High School Information Meeting will take place at 2:30pm in the school hall on Tuesday 8th September.

-The Successful Start Parent Meeting will take place in the school hall between 9:15am - 9:45am (Y5 & Y6 parents) and 9:45am - 10:00 (Y6 parents) on Friday 11th September.

-Year 6 Residential to Robinwood is Wednesday 23rd to Friday 25th September.

-Extra-Curricular Clubs commence from next week (w.b. 7/9/2026).
