It has been a fantastic second full week in Year 6, with the children continuing to settle brilliantly into life at the top of the school. We have been really impressed with the positive attitude, enthusiasm and maturity they have shown towards their learning. Not only that, there is a real sense of anticipation in the air as the children eagerly await their residential trip to Robinwood next week!

In our Maths lessons this week, we have focused on developing our understanding of place value, working with numbers up to ten million before extending our learning into decimals too. There has also been plenty of times-table and related division-fact practice as we have explored different game modes on Blooket, including some brand-new releases. We also introduced the children to a fast-paced Maths game called The Eliminator, which has certainly brought out their competitive sides!

In English, we have learned how to use semi-colons and parenthesis effectively as we have delved further into Michael Rosen’s powerful picturebook, 'One Day'. We have also identified key features of the text and explored how the author’s choice of vocabulary and sentence structures help to convey meaning and emotion.

In RE, we have continued to explore our theme of Life as a Journey. The children used their creativity to map out their own life journeys, identifying key events and milestones so far and considering the experiences that have helped to shape who they are today. It was a poignant and thought-provoking lesson, which the children really enjoyed.

In PE, the children have continued to enjoy their Judo sessions with Dale, developing their balance, coordination and technique whilst learning the importance of discipline, respect and self-control.

Now, attention turns to next week and our much-anticipated residential - bring on Robinwood! We can’t wait to see the children challenge themselves, support one another and show what fantastic teamwork Year 6 are capable of. An exciting week awaits!
