Year 6 - Autumn 1 - Week 7
Date: 15th Oct 2026 @ 8:05pm

It's hard to believe we're already at the penultimate week of our first half term! Year 6 have continued to work incredibly hard, showing enthusiasm, determination and a fantastic attitude towards their learning. With just one week to go until a well-earned break, we've been keeping busy with lots of exciting learning and opportunities!
In Maths, Year 6 have been putting their fraction skills to the test, focusing on adding fractions and tackling a range of challenging problem-solving questions. The children have been working hard to apply their knowledge to different scenarios, carefully choosing the most efficient methods and explaining their reasoning.
In English, Year 6 have been busy unleashing their creativity as they entered the BBC 500 Words competition! The children have thoroughly enjoyed becoming authors, using their imaginations to develop original characters, exciting plots and engaging stories. We're incredibly proud of the effort and enthusiasm they've put into their entries and, who knows, we might just have a future award-winning author among us!
Our Year 6 pupils also enjoyed a very special Afternoon Tea alongside their Reception buddies this week. With Reception parents invited to join us, it was a lovely opportunity for the oldest and youngest children in our school to come together, share a heartwarming song and spend some quality time together. Year 6 embraced their roles as buddies brilliantly, showing kindness, care and responsibility, while the Reception children clearly loved spending time with their ‘big friends’. With plenty of smiles, chatter and, of course, biscuits, it was a wonderful afternoon that really captured the sense of community within our school!
We have also been recognising Hate Crime Awareness Week, taking time to reflect on the importance of kindness, respect and treating everyone equally. We linked our discussions to our school value of Serve, exploring how we can follow Jesus' example by showing compassion, standing up for others and making sure everyone feels valued and included. The children shared some thoughtful reflections on how even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in our school community and beyond.
With just one week to go until half term, we're looking forward to finishing on a high. Until then, enjoy a well-deserved weekend!
Reminders:
-Maths and English homework continues to be set via the SATs Companion platform and is due to be completed on or before next Wednesday (21st). Please encourage children to watch the short support videos included with tasks, where available, particularly in Maths, as these provide helpful explanations and worked examples. For children in Mrs Martin's Maths group, homework has been set in their books, which have been sent home in their bags. SATs Companion remains available to all children for additional practice and revision. If your child experiences any difficulties with their homework, please encourage them to speak to a member of the Year 6 team so that we can support them.
-Weeky spellings have been attached to this blog and the children will be tested next Friday (23rd).
-It is also really important that the children are encouraged to read daily at home and with an adult if possible. If you are struggling with book choices, please refer to the recommendations listed on our ‘Learning at Home’ page, or let us know and we will be able to offer suggestions.
