Year 6 - Summer 1 - Week 2
Date: 23rd Apr 2026 @ 8:10pm

It’s been another busy and hard-working week in Year 6, made even better by the sunshine, which has meant we’ve been able to take more of our learning outdoors!
In Maths, we are firmly in revision mode and working hard to build confidence across all areas. We’ve been revisiting key topics, practising a range of question types and focusing on explaining our reasoning clearly. The children have shown great resilience, tackling challenges with determination and supporting each other along the way.
In Reading, we’ve travelled from Hollywood to koala habitats to ‘Screaming Demons’! We’ve explored a range of texts, using our comprehension skills to retrieve information, make inferences and discuss vocabulary. The children have enjoyed the variety and have been developing their confidence in explaining their ideas clearly using evidence from the text.
In PE this week, the children thoroughly enjoyed an energetic session of dodgeball outdoors in the sunshine. The warm weather made the lesson even more enjoyable as pupils practised their throwing, dodging and catching skills, with their Year 6 teachers unable to resist the temptation to join in! It was brilliant to see everyone so active, engaged (not to mention competitive) and making the most of being outside in the fresh air.
As we come to the end of another busy and exciting week, we are incredibly proud of the many achievements within Year 6. We hope you all have a restful, enjoyable weekend and enjoy the weekend sunshine!
Reminders:
-Year 6 PE lessons will continue to take place on Wednesdays (swimming) and Thursdays each week for this half term.
-For next week’s swimming lesson (29.4.26), please could children again bring in a set of pyjamas or spare clothes. We recommend a t-shirt and long trousers. The children will be taking part in survival swimming activities, where this additional clothing is required. This forms part of the water safety element of the National Curriculum, which includes learning how to perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
-As previously communicated, the whole class were provided with optional revision homework during the Easter break for both Maths and English, which would still be beneficial for children to complete where time allows, if not already done. This has been set via both the SATs Companion platform and the children have also been given a set of printed resources to use at home too.
-Weekly Maths and English homework has resumed and has been set via either the SATs Companion platform or sent home in books. This is due to be completed on or before next Wednesday (29th).
-The Key Stage 2 SATs assessments are just a few weeks away and take place from Monday 11th May to Thursday 14th May. Please see a KS2 SATs Parent Information Leaflet attached.
