Nursery - Autumn 1 Week 3

What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in Nursery!
On Monday, we celebrated International Dot Day. We arrived to find a surprise 'dotty' package and our classroom covered in colourful dots! Inside the package, we discovered a special book, a message, some paper, and – to everyone's delight – dot stickers! (We do love stickers!)
We read the inspiring story "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds and learned about Vashti, a little girl who thought she couldn’t draw. With encouragement from her teacher, Vashti found the courage to “just make a mark and see where it takes you” – and that one small dot sparked a wonderful creative journey.
We linked Vashti to our SHINE character Leo, who reminds us to be brave, have a go, and not give up. Leo has been helping us all week to understand our school values and follow Jesus' example of perseverance and kindness.
Throughout the week, the children have been making their mark in lots of creative ways – discovering that creativity is all about experimenting and trying new things. We've explored many fun dotty activities, and even had a go at singing The Dot Song together!
In maths, we focused on matching items by colour, pattern, and shape. The children were brilliant at helping sort Mr Grayson’s socks – such clever little problem-solvers!
As part of developing our early listening skills, we went on a listening walk and played a mystery sound game. The children loved guessing the sounds and thinking about what they might mean – many of them said they’d like to play the game at home too!
Even with the changing weather, we’ve made the most of our outdoor play – using our windy day toys and getting creative with brushes and bubbles in puddles!
