Nursery Autumn 2 Week 4
Date: 27th Nov 2025 @ 6:11pm
What a lovely week we’ve had in Nursery!
We are continuing to practise our songs for our 'Christmas Sing-a-long' and the children are becoming more and more confident each day. We do hope you are all practising your clapping at home too — it really helps us keep the beat!
In Maths, we began the week by singing Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes with a festive twist, which brought lots of giggles. We then learned all about AB patterns — a simple two-colour repeating pattern. The children were amazing at spotting, creating, and continuing their patterns, both inside and outside, using a wide range of resources. Their enthusiasm has been wonderful to see!
We’ve also been thinking about how to keep ourselves healthy, especially with so many coughs and colds floating around. We learnt and talked about catching our coughs and sneezes, popping used tissues in the bin, washing our hands regularly, eating plenty of fruit and vegetables, and wrapping up warm in our winter woollies when going outside. All of this is helping us become more independent, as we learn to look after ourselves and our belongings.
As always, books have played an important part in our week. We have particularly enjoyed ‘Something Else’ by Kathryn Cave. The story helped us to be more like our SHINE friend, Cuddles as we explored feelings, friendship, being kind, and appreciating each other’s strengths — such important messages at this time of year.
Our large-scale fire engine is finally finished, and what a fabulous addition it has been to our role play! The children have been whizzing off to emergencies, rescuing people, and extinguishing many imaginary fires. This excitement led us to create our very own paper-plate fire engines, complete with sirens — they looked amazing!
And of course, Christmas excitement is building in Nursery! Our classroom has been a flurry of glitter and sparkles as various festive activities have begun to take place, much to the children’s delight. Tuesday brought lots of excitement as we realised it was one month to go until a certain man in red makes his visit. It felt like the perfect moment to get Christmassy in class. Together, we decorated our class Christmas tree and have been practising our decorating skills in the home corner with our very own do-it-yourself Christmas tree.
We are full of festive cheer and counting down the sleeps until our performance — the children are so excited to share it with you. Please remember to wear a Christmas top/jumper for the performance.
We can’t wait to see you all next week for more Christmas fun and learning!
Warm wishes,
Mrs Grayson and the Nursery Team
Please note: On Tuesday (Christmas Sing-a-long) if children can arrive for Nursery at the usual time and as soon as we are all settled we will open our doors to start our performance! Entrance is via the Nursery school door.
