Reception - Autumn 1 - Week 6
Date: 8th Oct 2025 @ 12:47pm

This week, our Reception children have been exploring the wonders of Autumn! We joined Nursery for a visit to Forest School, where we revisited our forest rules and practiced our special calling sound. The children loved playing our favourite game, “1, 2, 3, where are you?” – why not ask them to teach you how it works at home?
In Phonics, we continued learning new sounds – these have been sent home for you to practice together. The children are really enjoying using Fred Talk and Fred Fingers to help with their spelling.
In Maths, we’ve been busy comparing items by height, using cubes to build towers and then comparing them with friends. We talked about the importance of measuring on the same surface and even introduced rulers! We also explored comparing sets of objects by more or fewer, and looked at length too.
As part of our Autumn theme, we read the story “Leaf Thief” and discussed seasonal changes like leaves changing colour and cooler temperatures. In our creative area, the children had fun making leaf pictures and paintings.
Friday was Hello Yellow Day, where we celebrated happiness and wellbeing. The children took part in lots of yellow-themed activities and we talked about how yellow is often seen as a happy colour. We also linked this to the ‘Colour Monster’, and a story called ‘In My Heart’ helping the children express their feelings in a fun and creative way.
