We’ve had a wonderfully busy and exciting week in Reception!

The children have now completed learning all their single letter sounds—what an achievement! Next week, we will now be assessing how many sounds they’ve retained, and after half term, they’ll be grouped to best support their learning journey. Please continue to practise at home and encourage your child to show you how they use their Fred Fingers to help with blending—it’s a brilliant strategy that really boosts confidence!

This week in maths, we’ve been exploring repeating patterns. The children loved spotting patterns in the environment and creating their own using cubes. We even challenged them to find and fix mistakes in patterns—such clever thinking! To finish the week, we used our bodies to make patterns like clap, stamp, clap, stamp—the children came up with some fantastic ideas and had so much fun!

Our theme this week was all about owls! We began by reading the beautiful story Owl Babies and used our story sack to create our very own owl-themed small world. The children explored what it means to be nocturnal, made owl pictures, and even painted their own owls. Ask your child what owl facts they can share with you—we’re sure you’ll be impressed!

We’ve also been busy cooking this week—peeling, chopping, and stewing apples to make a delicious apple crumble. The children loved getting involved in the process and are excited to try their homemade treat during snack time. It’s a wonderful way to explore seasonal produce and build life skills through hands-on learning!

Thank you for your continued support. Have a fabulous weekend, and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday!
