Wow, the weeks are flying by as we get ready for the start of Advent!

This week, the children have continued with their phonics and are absolutely blowing us away with how well they are forming their letters and segmenting and blending sounds to write words. We hope they’ve been showing you their fantastic progress at home—we’re sure you’re just as proud as we are!

In maths, the children have been introduced to the concept of one less with numbers up to 5. They are beginning to understand that as we count back, each number is one less than the number before. They’re noticing that the numbers get smaller because we take one away, while recognising that the order of numbers when counting does not change. We’ve also explored the idea that all numbers are made up of smaller numbers, which we call parts. Learning to see a whole number and its parts at the same time is a key step in developing strong number sense.

In our theme work, we’ve continued to enjoy the story The Gingerbread Man. The children have loved taking on different character roles in our role-play area. They were also introduced to a Flow Map—a fantastic tool for retelling stories.

As we move closer to Advent, we’re so excited for all the festive learning ahead! Thank you for your continued support at home—it makes such a difference. Have a wonderful weekend, and we can’t wait to see what next week brings!
