Reception - Autumn 2 - Week 5
Date: 3rd Dec 2025 @ 11:00am

Advent is Here – The Countdown to Christmas Begins! Can you believe we’ve already started Advent and the countdown to Christmas? The children have been full of excitement with the arrival of our Christmas tree and the joy of sharing a special Christmas story each day. What a magical time of year!
The children have been busy recapping and practising their phonics skills. They are enjoying showing off what they’ve learned by writing simple words and reading and matching captions. Your support at home makes a big difference! Please keep using the phonics videos we’ve provided—every little bit helps.
In maths, we’ve introduced an important idea: all numbers are made up of smaller numbers called parts. Learning to see a whole number and its parts at the same time is a key step in developing number sense. The children have been confidently talking about the parts they can see and understand that these smaller numbers can be combined to make the whole. We’ve also been exploring shapes! The children have noticed squares and rectangles all around them and begun to describe their properties. We’ve introduced mathematical language such as sides, straight, and corners. They now know that both squares and rectangles have four straight sides and four corners.
We’ve listened to The Christmas Story and learned about the true meaning of Christmas. The children have also been working very hard practising their singing for the Nativity performance next week—we can’t wait to share it with you!
Thank you for all the support you give at home—it truly makes a difference in your child’s learning journey. Whether it’s practising phonics, spotting shapes around the house, or sharing a Christmas story together, these small moments help build big skills.
We’re so proud of how hard the children are working and how excited they are for the festive season. Enjoy making magical memories this weekend, and we can’t wait to see you at the Nativity next week!
