What a fantastic half term we have had. Full of fun and laughter!

Our highlights include:

  • The children have enjoyed listening to the story ‘The Gingerbread man’. The children were able to act out the story in the role play area, make gingerbread men, sequence the story and made a trap to catch the gingerbread men that ran away. What fun we had!
  • The children enjoyed playing in the snow, making snowmen and snow angels, laughing and having fun with their friends.
  • The children talked about their experiences of bonfire night. The children learnt about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder plot. Through stories, re-enactments and pictures the children discovered why we light bonfires and light fireworks to mark this event. We also discussed how to stay safe when going to firework displays.
  • We talked together about Remembrance Day. Through simple and thoughtful discussions, the children began to learn about why this day was important and why we wear poppies.
  • In RE we discussed special people in our community. We had a lovely visit from Dr Ryan and Dr Cosgrove at Formby GP and Lilly from St Peters church who talked to us about their important roles. – post office
  • As we moved closer to Christmas we talked about the Nativity story and the birth of Jesus. The children took part in their own Nativity performance as a class for all their loved ones to come to see.
  • As a school, we celebrated Kindness week. We joined together with our Year 6 buddies to make woollen hearts with a kind message attached. We then delivered them around the school to spread kindness.
  • In our recent maths lessons, Reception have been learning about the numbers 4 and 5. We had lots of fun exploring these numbers through games, discussion and group work. The children enjoyed exploring ‘Anno’s book’ where the children were able to use their counting skills, we went on a shape hunt to look for shapes in the environment with 4 sides and began to look at number bonds to 5.

Please see attached the virtual classroom which identifies the books and themes that we will be focussing on next term.

Thank you so much for all of the lovely cards, gifts and Christmas wishes. We are all extremely grateful! Have a lovely Christmas and New Year and see you all soon.
