Spring1 Week 1 - Winter Wonders Begin! ❄️
Welcome back, and a very Happy New Year to all our families! We hope you had a wonderful holiday. It’s been a frosty, icy start to the term, which has been perfect for introducing our new mini-theme: Winter. We do hope it hasn’t been too slippery and that everyone has managed to arrive and leave school safely.
This week, the children have loved talking about their Christmas adventures. We also explored the meaning of The Epiphany, and the children enjoyed making beautiful crowns to remind them of this special Christian celebration.
We talked about what a New Year means – a time for making promises or trying new things. The children created stunning Hopes and Wishes Stars, thinking about something they would like to improve, a new skill to learn, or even ways they could help at home. Their ideas were truly inspiring!
In maths, we built on previous learning by using our knowledge of zero to find amounts up to five, including zero. We introduced the concept of subitising – instantly recognising the number of objects in a group without counting – including zero objects and up to five objects.
Our creative area has been full of colour and excitement! The children explored finger painting, describing textures and colours as they worked. We talked about whether their paintings were abstract or figurative, and celebrated how unique and imaginative each piece was. It was wonderful to see their creativity shine!
A Little Reminder
Please make sure your child has a warm coat that they can fasten themselves, hat, scarf, and gloves during this cold snap. Thank you for helping keep everyone warm and cosy!
We hope you have a lovely weekend!
