Reception - Spring 1 - Week 1

Date: 8th Jan 2025 @ 2:17pm

Welcome to the new term in Reception! We have an exciting few weeks ahead, filled with learning, exploration, and discovery. As the season changes, we’ll focus on winter and the environmental changes that come with it. We’ll look at the weather, clothing, and how nature adapts during this chilly time of year. We’ll blast off into the universe as we learn about the solar system, space travel, and the history of space exploration, including the incredible story of Neil Armstrong. There will be lots of fun activities to help us explore the stars and planets! We will also be learning about Chinese New Year, exploring the traditions, stories, and celebrations associated with this time. In maths, we will focus on numbers 6–10. We’ll practice making pairs, combining two groups, one more, one less patterns and learning about number bonds. In RE, we will dive into the stories Jesus heard and told, exploring important lessons and messages through storytelling and discussion. In PE, our topic is gymnastics, where we will work on balance, coordination, and flexibility through exciting and energetic activities.

Please see our curriculum map for an overview of what the children will be learning this half term.
