What a fantastic week we have had!

Year 1 have settled extremely well. They have adapted to their new classroom with such ease and have taken everything in their stride.

In English this week, we started our first class story, Lost and Found. The children loved making predictions by exploring the front cover. We came up with some wonderful ideas and are now on a mission to help the penguin find his way home!

In Maths, we have been exploring place value, focusing specifically on numbers within 10. We practically sorted objects, created groups, and learned about representation using manipulatives such as counters and cubes. We then moved on to counting on from any number, using ten frames and number tracks for the first time.

In Science, we loved learning about the five animal groups. We discussed some of our favourite animals and sorted them into the correct groups based on their features. We thoroughly enjoyed discovering the weird and wonderful facts about different animals. Our favourite part of the lesson was learning The Animal Classification Song—it is now a class favourite!

We also began our first RE topic, all about the Harvest Festival. We discussed some of the delicious food that God created when he made the world. The children shared lots of great stories about farm life and fantastic experiences of growing different foods.

Well done on an amazing week, Year 1! Have a lovely weekend.
