Well done on another wonderful week, Year 1!

This week we continued exploring our class book Lost and Found. We read through the opening pages and thought carefully about how the boy and the penguin might be feeling. Then, we received an exciting challenge from Christopher Forgetful at the Lost and Found Office! He needed our help to organise the inventory of all the lost animals—and we couldn’t wait to get started.

In Continuous Provision, we had great fun role-playing in our very own classroom Lost and Found office. We made important phone calls to the local zoo, wrote and posted notes around the area, and created labels for the lost items. Everyone enjoyed stepping into different roles and bringing the characters from our story to life.

In Maths, we focused on developing our understanding of numbers within 10 and 20, with a particular emphasis on finding one more. We practised counting on to add, and then challenged ourselves by counting backwards and taking one away. Next week we’ll be moving on to one less and consolidating our learning through problem-solving activities.

In RE, we looked more closely at the Harvest Festival. We studied pictures of harvest time and discussed how farming has changed over the years, especially with the use of new machinery. Our challenge was to create our very own harvest scene in the small world area, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

In Geography, we continued our journey around the world—this time focusing on Australia! We began by sharing the fantastic facts we already knew, before working in pairs to play a game of snap. This helped us practise teamwork and resilience while learning even more about this amazing country.

Reminders for next week:

  • Please ensure children come to school in the correct uniform. If you’re unsure, see the uniform policy or email y1@tsp-primary.uk.

  • Children may bring a healthy snack for break time.

  • Please label all items of clothing and belongings so they can be easily returned.

  • Individual school photos will take place on Monday 22nd September.
