Well done on another fantastic week, Year 1!

We started this week with a focus on animals and decided to channel our love for wildlife into our English work by creating fact files! We read some exciting new books all about our favourite animals, such as wolves and tigers. We learned fascinating facts, which we then used to create mini fact files.

In Maths, we discussed the meaning of fewer, more, and same, using practical resources to help us visualise what fewer looks like. We had a great understanding of more, but found the concept of fewer a bit trickier. We then moved on to working with greater than, less than, and equal to, and introduced the crocodile symbols to support our understanding.

In Science, we explored animals even further! We learned all about their diets and discussed the importance of a balanced diet to keep both humans and animals healthy. We were introduced to the terms herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores, and thought of fun ways to remember each one. Our favourite way to end our science lessons is by singing the animal classification song!

We wrapped up the week with another Geography lesson, focusing on the continent of Asia—more specifically, China. We learned about the Chinese currency, some famous landmarks, and interesting aspects of Chinese culture.

Reminders:

  • Please ensure all children bring a water bottle to school to use throughout the day.
  • Children must wear the correct school uniform. If wearing shirts, they must also wear a tie.
  • Reading books should be brought in on Thursdays so they can be collected and changed, ready to go home on Fridays.

Have a lovely weekend, everyone!
