Well done on another wonderful week Year 1.

We kicked off our week in Maths by exploring number bonds to 10. The children used songs, ten frames, counters, and part-whole models to help visualise all the different ways to make 10. It was wonderful to see everyone so focused and enthusiastic! We’d love it if you could continue this learning at home - singing number bond songs or chanting them together is a great way to reinforce understanding. Later in the week, we challenged ourselves by creating number sentences using the plus and equals symbols. These were a little tricky at first, but by Friday, we were confidently writing lots of different number sentences to show our number bonds - brilliant work, everyone!

In English, we began planning and writing our very own stories! The children were bursting with imaginative ideas and couldn’t wait to put their skills into action. We started by thinking carefully about the beginning, middle and end of our stories and used our plans to help us write full sentences. It’s been so exciting to see these stories come to life, we’re incredibly proud of what’s been written so far and can’t wait to continue next week.

In Geography, we continued our exciting trip around the world - this week’s stop: South America! We were fascinated by the vibrant colours and energy of the Rio Carnival and had so much fun designing and creating our own carnival face masks.

RE was extra special this week as we built our very own class Sukkah to celebrate the Jewish festival of Sukkot. We recapped how Jewish people build these huts to mark the harvest and sometimes even sleep in them! It was a wonderful way to immerse ourselves in the traditions and reflect on the importance of gratitude and community.

We were lucky enough to have a martial arts workshop on Friday! Practicing kicks and refining our form brought out everyone's focus and energy, and I was genuinely amazed by the confidence and skill on display. It was inspiring to see everyone push themselves.

What a fantastic week of learning, creativity, and celebration. Well done, Year 1!
