What an exciting week it’s been in Year 1 – full of mystery, discovery, and creativity!

We started the week with some very suspicious goings on in our classroom. When we arrived on Monday morning, we were shocked to find that lots of our classroom resources had been nibbled! The children put their detective hats on straight away and came up with all sorts of imaginative guesses about who (or what) might be responsible – perhaps fairies, monsters, or even a dragon. After lots of investigating, we discovered the culprit… a mischievous, book-eating creature called Nibbles the Monster. We were all very alarmed and wasted no time in making wanted posters to try and track him down. The children’s creativity and excitement were incredible.

In Maths we continued exploring addition and subtraction within 10, using our number bonds to help find missing parts. The children are becoming so confident in spotting number patterns and are starting to understand what subtraction really means. It’s wonderful to see how their problem-solving skills are growing each day.

Our new History topic has already captured everyone’s imagination. We’ve begun learning all about Florence Nightingale and how she transformed nursing. The children were fascinated to learn how dirty and unclean the hospitals were before Florence made her incredible changes. She truly is an inspiration, and we can’t wait to keep learning more about her life and the lasting impact she’s had on healthcare today.

In RE, we began our new topic all about Creation. The children had a fantastic time designing and making their own weird and wonderful creations in the classroom, before reflecting on how it feels to make something from scratch. We talked about who created the world and how amazing that must have felt. After reading the Creation Story together from our class Bible, the children shared their favourite parts and even recreated some of these special moments through beautiful artwork.

Well done, Year 1, for all your hard work and fantastic learning this week. Have a restful weekend.
