Year 1 - Spring 2 - Week 4

Date: 15th Mar 2023 @ 3:23pm

This week has been full of events for Year 1, and it has been so much fun!

We continue to persevere in Phonics, developing our understanding of the sounds applying them to our writing. It is truly wonderful to see how hard you all work and the incredible progress you have all made. Keep working hard, Year 1!

In Maths, we began our new topic, Measurement. We connected our learning back to Reception and recapped the important words; taller, shorter, and longer. We began by comparing objects using this language, before moving onto measuring objects with non-standard units of measure such as cubes, teddy bears and pencils. We then developed this skill further and moved onto using rulers to measure, practicing reading the rulers accurately ensuring we line the objects up carefully.

On Wednesday, we created our very own lava lamps, as we joined the rest of the school in celebrating British Science Week with a theme surrounding the weird and wonderful creations in George’s Marvellous Medicine. We loved watching the salt mix with the oil, making it heavier and therefore creating our very lamps of various colour.

Red Nose Day arrived in Year 1 on Friday, and we loved marking this day with some extra special activities all of which had a 'red' theme! We reflected on the importance of this day, and how this organisation helps people from around the world.

Finally, from everyone here in Year 1, we want to wish all of the important, inspirational women who surround us all, a very Happy Mother's Day, we hope you have a fantastic weekend full of love!
