What an egg-cellent end the spring term!

We have truly had the most exciting week full of laughter, excitement and a fair amount of chocolate. We must however, start by acknowledge and celebrating the children, on their incredible performance at church on Thursday. They did themselves, and the school proud, with their brilliant singing especially when the wrong version of the song came on!

In Maths, we finished off our topic on Measurement. We focused on mass and volume and explored how objects can contain different amounts, depending on what is being put in it. For example, a jug may take 5 cups of water but 12 cubes. It was a great topic to investigate and we loved getting hands on. Next term, we will start by looking at multiplication and division starting with counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. After, we will explore making equal groups and adding equal groups together.

This week in Phonics, the children have all been reassessed for Phonics. Some children will be moving onto a different colour book, whereas others will be staying on the same colour. This is due to develop children’s fluency and pace. After half term, all children will receive weekly Phonics videos to support their learning at home in preparation for the Phonics screen check.

This week we completed our computing topic, animations. After, we carefully drew our own unique characters, before animating the with the Chatterbox app. This allowed them to bring their creations to life by adding speech. We loved sharing these with our friends, with many of them bringing on the giggles.

For or DT topic this term, ‘Does something need to be alive to move?’, we created Easter eggs cards that open and closed using split pins. Although the endless cutting out was a bit tiring, we loved our final creations and hope you all do too!

The week ended with a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny himself, who brought chocolate along with his crazy dance moves. We hip-hopped around the classroom with him which certainly brought on the Easter spirt.

From all of us here in Year 1, Happy Easter. we hope you have a wonderful half term filled with love and laughter. See you all in the summer term!
