Year 2 - Autumn 1 - Week 4
Date: 26th Sep 2025 @ 11:11am
What a busy week we have had in Year 2!
In Maths, we have continued our place value topic. We have worked on comparing objects and numbers using the less than and greater than sign. Next week we will be starting our new topic of addition and subtraction working on number bonds and related number facts.
In English, we have enjoyed planning our own Troll Swap stories with a twist. The children have created their own characters and switched the roles of their characters. This week they have written the beginning and middle sections of their stories. Next week we will be writing the ending then working on our editing skills to fix any errors and improve our writing.
In RE, the children learnt about the Dead Sea Scrolls and the unusual way in which they were found. The children found it interesting that the scrolls were discovered by a young shepherd who was searching for a stray goat. They asked and answered many good questions including - Were the scrolls written in English? Why were some of the scrolls damaged? They then retold the story in their own words.
In Science, the children looked at the human life cycle and discussed the stages that humans go through and the differences. We looked at why babies need help from an adult but children can do more tasks independently. As part of our outdoor classroom, we went on a scavenger hunt to try to find the different stages of 4 life cycles. The children had to find all 16 pieces then decide if the piece belonged to a frog, butterfly, seed or chicken lifecycle and put them in the correct order.
In PE, the children have worked on developing their rolling and passing skills. They have worked in pairs to check that they are able to roll and pass accurately to a partner and also as part of a larger group. The children thought about strategies for rolling and passing accurately and how they can transfer these skills into a game.
In Art, we continued creating maps using different materials and equipment. This week the children started with a clear background and used cellophane and tissue paper to create their own maps to create a stained glass effect.
Reminders:
- Please ensure all children bring a water bottle to school to use throughout the day.
- Children must wear the correct school uniform. If wearing shirts, they must also wear a tie.
- Reading books should be brought in on Thursdays so they can be collected and changed, ready to go home on Fridays.
Have a lovely weekend, everyone!
