Year 2 - Autumn 1 - Week 5
Date: 3rd Oct 2025 @ 11:00am
What a lovely week we have had!
In Maths, we have started our new topic of addition and subtraction. The children have worked very hard recapping their number bonds to 10 and using this knowledge to learn their number bonds to 20 and 100. Next week we will be working on different addition and subtraction skills, including making ten first to support adding larger numbers and adding 3 digit numbers using their knowledge of number bonds.
In English, the children have edited their stories based on the Troll Swap story. We have introduced a new book called The Troll with a focus on comprehension skills and making links to previous texts. Next week we will be introducing a new story for our next English unit called Look Up which will have a theme of space.
In RE this week we looked at different stories from the past when people were not allowed to read the Bible. We talked about how they would feel and how special it is to receive your own copy of the Bible. The children then designed their own front covers and blurbs for the Bible.
In Science we answered the question 'do our feet get bigger as we get older?' The children enjoyed measuring their feet and comparing it to other children in the room. They then measured the adult's feet to see if they could prove or disprove this statement. The children decided that people's feet do get bigger as they get older but they don't continue to grow after a certain age. It was lovely to see great teamwork and accurate measuring to see if their ideas were correct.
Reminders:
Please ensure all children bring a water bottle to school each day.
Children must wear the correct school uniform. If wearing shirts, they must also wear a tie.
Reading books should be brought in on Thursdays so they can be changed and sent home on Fridays.
