Year 2 - Autumn 2 - Week 1

Date: 5th Nov 2025 @ 4:03pm

What a lovely week we have had in year 2.

In Maths, the children have been working on addition and subtraction representing their questions using base 10 and also as numbers. The children have worked on exchanging ten ones for a ten and how to represent this. They have enjoyed learning a new method which we will continue to practise next week.

In English, we have started our new book called The Great Fire of London. The children looked at different pieces of art and talked about what they could see in the pictures. We discussed what they would like to know about the Great Fire of London and what they already knew. The children were asking great questions that they would like to know the answers to. The Great Fire of London will be a focus in English, History and Music which I know that the children will really enjoy this half term.

In RE, we started our new topic about good news. The children shared their good news during circle time and listened well to other children's news. We then watched Newsround and talked about the news from today which included information about Bonfire Night. The children then wrote down their good news to share with others.

In Design and Technology, the children have started their new topic to create a suitable chair for Baby Bear. We looked at different types of chairs and how suitable they were. The children particularly enjoyed talking about the inflatable chair and the wobble throne and could explain why they would not be a suitable chair.

In Science, we started our new topic on materials. We recapped different types of materials from year 1, discussed key vocabulary including transparent and opaque and then sorted materials into strong and fragile materials.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 2 Team
