Year 2 - Autumn 2 - Week 2
Date: 14th Nov 2025 @ 3:46am

What a busy week we have had in year 2!
In Maths, we have continued working on subtracting and practised how to cross over to the next ten by exchanging one ten for ten ones. Next week we will continue representing numbers using base 10 and practise exchanging to help the children to bridge over to the next 10.
In English, we have continued to learn about The Great Fire of London. This week the children were each given a job role, they had to listen to a description and decide if this was the job role on their card. Next week we will continue learning more about The Great Fire of London and link this to our learning in History.
In Design and Technology, we tested out the strongest 3D shape for our chair structures. The children made a cylinder, triangular prism and a cuboid, they then balanced books on top to see which would be the strongest shape. Initially, most of the children predicted that the triangular prism would be the strongest, however, after testing their theory, they realised that the cylinder was the strongest shape. This knowledge will support them when they build their own chair.
For kindness week, the children enjoyed performing for the filming of our kindness video. This week they have made flower seed gifts which will spread kindness and joy to the people receiving them.
It is Road Safety Week next week and as a class we discussed the safety features that our cars have. We also talked about other safety features that would be useful. The children then designed and labelled their own vehicle including the safety features that they would want to include.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend,
The Year 2 Team
