In Maths, we have consolidated our work on addition and subtraction and focussed on answering word problems and reasoning questions using addition and subtraction. The children have worked on finding the key information and understanding which words help them to understand the correct calculation to use.

In English, we have completed pyramid poems which build up as the pyramid increases in size. We have introduced adverbs, what they are and the effect that they can have in our writing. The children have used them in their writing this week to describe the flames during The Great Fire of London.

In RE, we listened to the story of Zechariah who was unable to speak because he questioned the good news that the Lord had given him. We watched the Nativity story in silence but it was signed by someone in British Sign Language, the children found it very interesting and it sparked a great discussion on different ways that we can communicate.

In DT, we continued our work on creating a chair for a bear. This week the children were working on how to strengthen materials. They were given a selection of materials and balanced cubes on the material to see how much it would bend. They then folded the material and repeated the test to see if folding the material would have an effect on the strength of the material. They all showed great teamwork and this activity will support their work next week on making their own individual chairs, they are all very excited!

We hope you all have a lovely weekend,

The Year 2 Team
